Privacy Policy

PrivateBrowser · Last updated 1 November 2026

PrivateBrowser is a mobile web browser. This policy explains what the app does with your information. The short version: we do not operate accounts, we do not collect analytics, and your browsing history stays on your device. The app is funded by advertising, which is described in section 3.

1. What we collect

We do not collect, transmit, or store any personal information on our servers. PrivateBrowser has no user accounts, no sign-in and no analytics SDK. We operate no servers that receive your data.

We never see your browsing history, your bookmarks, your saved articles or anything you type into the address bar. None of it is uploaded anywhere.

2. What is stored on your device

The following is saved locally in the app's private storage. It never leaves your device, and we cannot read it.

DataWhyHow to remove it
Browsing history So you can revisit pages from the History screen. History screen, or Settings › Clear App Data
Bookmarks So your saved pages persist between sessions. Bookmarks screen, or Settings › Clear App Data
Search suggestions To offer your recent searches in the search bar. Settings › Clear App Data
Home screen shortcuts The site tiles you pin to the Home screen. Long-press a tile to edit or remove it
Preferences Search engine, animations, cookie and JavaScript settings. Settings › Clear App Data
Website cookies & cache Managed by the system WebView for the sites you visit. Settings › Clear Cookies / Clear Cache

Uninstalling the app removes all of it. Incognito mode does not write history, and its cookies and site data are discarded.

3. Advertising

The app is free and is funded by advertising supplied by Google AdMob. To show an ad, the Google Mobile Ads SDK receives your device's advertising ID along with technical information such as device model, operating system version, coarse region and language. This is handled by Google, not by us — we never receive it.

How we limit it:

Where the law requires it, you are asked for consent before any ad is requested. You can change that choice at any time from Settings › Ad privacy options. On Android you can also reset or delete your advertising ID in your device settings, under Settings › Privacy › Ads.

Google's use of this data is governed by its own policy: How Google uses information from sites or apps that use our services.

4. Permissions

PermissionUsed for
INTERNET, ACCESS_NETWORK_STATE Loading the web pages you request.
RECORD_AUDIO Voice search. Audio is captured only while you hold the microphone button, is handled by your device's speech recognition service, and is never recorded, stored, or sent to us.
READ_EXTERNAL_STORAGE / WRITE_EXTERNAL_STORAGE Saving files you choose to download. Limited to older Android versions; newer releases use the system Downloads folder.

5. Third parties

When you browse, you are interacting directly with the websites and search engine you have chosen (Google, DuckDuckGo, Bing, or Yahoo). Those services have their own privacy policies, and their handling of your data is outside our control. PrivateBrowser does not add tracking to those requests.

The app also fetches a small configuration file from our own server to determine whether to show an in-app announcement. This request contains no personal information and is not logged against you.

6. Children

PrivateBrowser provides unrestricted access to the open web and is not directed at children. We do not knowingly collect information from children.

7. Changes

If this policy changes, the revised version will be posted on this page with an updated date above.
